Here is some useful information on how to properly prepare an enrollment of your child to a school abroad and the best steps to take in order to avoid common mistakes.
- Start choosing a school and preparing your child in advance - the earlier, the better.
- Determine the main criteria for choosing a program: the main goal of studying at a school, the duration of studying abroad, the maximum budget per year, and the country for studying.
- Get a detailed analysis of possible schools.
- Try to visit several of the selected schools together with your child.
- Determine the admission strategy, choose an effective system of preparing your child for studying abroad and for taking entrance exams at the school. The main ones are foreign language, mathematics, and other subjects in a foreign language. One of the main requirement for admission to a foreign school is knowledge of the language in which the education will be conducted. Therefore, start learning the necessary language in advance. Consult professional teachers, purchase online courses, and do not postpone this process until the last moment.
- Gather all necessary documents. Different schools may require different documents for admission. However, usually these include a birth certificate, grades for the past 2 years, language test results, teacher recommendations, essays, etc. Clarify with the chosen school which specific documents they need for admission in order to gather everything necessary in advance.
- Prepare an "ideal presentation" of your child for schools, translate it into a foreign language, notarize it, and submit the documents for enrollment to 2-4 schools.
- Get entrance tests from schools and take them - usually this can be done online.
- Many foreign schools conduct interviews with candidates for admission. It can be either a personal interview or an online one. To successfully pass the interview, it is necessary to prepare in advance: study information about the school, prepare answers to typical questions, and show your interest in education.
- Look for information about scholarships and financial support. Studying at a foreign school can be quite expensive, so many schools provide scholarships and other forms of financial support for talented students. Look for information about such opportunities on the school's website or consult with educational advisors.
- Do not be afraid to ask questions. If you have any questions regarding admission to a foreign school, do not hesitate to contact consultants or representatives of the school. They will help you understand all the nuances and answer all your questions.
- Accept an offer from one school, pay a deposit as confirmation of a place (usually 10% of the cost per year), and start preparing documents for a student visa - 4 months before the start of studying.
